Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a fad as: A practice or interest followed for a
time with exaggerated zeal.
Fads never really die, but build our
world, shape our lives and mold our memories .
As we've seen many times,
fads often return to become fads again and again. Or simply return as a
way of life. Take the Happy Face for example. Adopted by
corporate giants simply because it is easily recognizable. I don't have
to insert one on this page for you to see it in your mind. Once a fad,
plastered on millions of T-Shirts, Buttons and Bumper Stickers, the Happy Face
is now an American icon.
Fads can also be a state of
mind. For instance, the Mood Ring. Although there was no
basis to believe it could indicate anything except your skin
temperature, the fad raged on, from the early to mid 70's. Many people
wore some kind of mood jewelry and believe it or not, a few even wore Mood
underwear.
No matter what your age, whether you
wore a crew cut or the Farrah Faucett look and from flagpole sitting to
Razor scooters, fads are a part of our lives.
So sit back in your bean bag chair or
dust off your Hula Hoop because we're bringing those memories
back.
Enjoy!
Dad
Footnote: The words printed above were put on this web page nearly ten years
ago. My original idea was to share my memories with my children in a fun and
educational way. Little has been done with this web site until just this
year, when a classic toy store was added. This store fits the original web
site's ideas very well. Classic and fad toys at very reasonable prices. I feel
as I did ten years ago, - we should hang on to our memories and pass them along
to our children. In doing this, we help preserve the simpler times. Times when
trusting was easy. Times that built our world. Shaped our lives, and molded our
memories. What better way.
Thank You For Visiting,
Dad
